Bonjour! 👋
This 🥀 🥀 🥀 pot pourri course covers the 'little' words that drive people bonkers! 😤
🔗 First of all you'll start off with conjunctions which as the name suggests are linking words that join up parts of sentences. Words like:
Apologies but you know that que often summons the subjunctive mood so you'll get a brief look at the subjunctive (used to express wishes, desires, doubts, obligations etc). The subjunctive is used a lot in everyday French so even if you don't get quite to grips with it, it's important to become familiar with it to recognise it when you come across it in conversations.
💋 Prepositions (sounds like proposition - hence the lipsticky lips - mwah!) - are pesky but we need 'em. Like a fine wine 🍷 - you have to wait for the good stuff to happen by doing certain processes, patience, care and being thorough with the steps. Good quality takes a special effort. Tweaking, refining and nurturing prepositions will produce a finer French. Chin chin! Cheers! 🥂
Prepositions show the relationship between nouns (and pronouns). Often the position of one to the other - so the clue is in the name preposition. E.g. behind derrière, in front of devant, next to à côté de but also other relationship words like e.g. with avec, towards vers, for pour.
The tricky bit is that in different languages we often use different prepositions. In French they 🚌 'get into the bus' dans le bus, but in English 'get onto the bus' which to a French person will sound like you're climbing on top of it! 🤣 😂 🤣
Well you're going to take the plunge 🌊 here and dive deep into French prepositions and their uses - all in context of course. There is plenty of practice and building up on what you've learnt in the previous courses so that your memory is refreshed. 🧠
And the biggest part of the course is everyone's favourite - the pronouns! 🐦 🐦 🐦 Pronouns are the cuckoos of the grammatical world. They kick out nouns like a cuckoo kicks out another bird's eggs from a nest and pops its own eggs in there. Pronouns kick out and replace nouns.
They're sanity savers because they allow you to not keep repeating a noun over and over again.
Par exemple - you introduce yourself with your name the first time you meet 🤝 someone. Then you refer to yourself as 'I' or 'me' or 'myself' - all those are examples of pronouns you use instead of your own name. You would sound mad if you kept using your name - unless you're 2 years old of course. 👶
So you have always already mentioned the noun then the pronoun refers to that afore mentioned noun for the rest of the conversation. 'I want that table.' ('table' is the noun) - 'I like it a lot!' ('it' is the pronoun referring to 'table' without saying the word 'table') Pronouns are handy huh? 👍🏿
So you'll get tons of practice of different types of pronouns - for you grammarphiles:
If you're a grammarphobe - fear not - I will hold your hand 👐 all the way through. You're not expected to memorise all the lessons. You can choose to get the gist in order to improve. No pressure! But going through these lessons WILL improve your French and you WILL understand more French.
These are the words that may do your head in 🤯 but you'll be glad to have finally delved into how to use them in French. Doing this course will feel like wearing high heels 👠 - they hurt after a while but keep putting your feet up for a rest 🛋️ then - stagger your way back on track... you don't have to walk pretty to get to where you'd like to be!
What you get:
My aim is to make tricky French accessible to everyone - both grammarphiles and grammarphobes. The grammar books are sadly boring and usually so uninspiring that they can turn you off grammar forever. 📚 😔
You don't have to study grammar to learn French but it really helps and accelerates your understanding of the mechanics and highlights great shortcuts to the language when you don't have the 24 hours immersion that you have with your native language(e).
You can get to a destination without a map 🗺️. But you may get lost. A map will give you several routes to get your destination. Depending on whether you want to get there quickly or you want to enjoy the journey and take in the scenery on the way. You may want to avoid motorways, flying or dangerous areas. Grammar helps you navigate your way through French - you can decide the route - I'm suggesting some here that I like and that hundreds of my students have liked.
So come hitch 👍🏽 a ride if you fancy it - This pot pourri 🥀 🥀 🥀 course - will bring a pleasant fragrance to your French, giving it a more natural, authentic aroma - a tinge of sweet floral 🌺 with a zing of citrus! 🍊 A little je ne sais quoi!
This is a fun route to more genuine French.
All aboard - toot toot - Allons-y - Let's go! 🚙
CécileBB 👋
This is a biggie ,
You will've heard me say enough times - 'Pronouns replace nouns'. We have all kinds of pronouns. And we use them all the time. They allow us to not have to repeat the nouns over and over again. If we keep repeating nouns over and over we sound crazy!
Once you've invested time in French pronouns your French will be more fluid and flow better.
Enjoy!
