Fun French Grammar Course 12 - The Conditional Mood with Connie Conditional! ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ

Bonjour ,

If you go down to the 🌳 🌳 🌳  'woulds' (woods) today, you're in for a big surprise...you'll meet a bear wearing pearls - all will become clear once you learn to see the woods for the trees. Read on...

This is the 'Would, Could, Should' course - with a bit of 'Would've, Could've, Should've' course. Try saying these sentences in French if you can:

  • I would take a parasol if I were you. ⛱️
  • We could buy them some flowers. 💐
  • You should take an umbrella. ☂️

or

  • Julien would've hired a car if he'd remembered to bring his driving permit. 🚙
  • They could've played table tennis. 🏓
  • Monique should've bought the tickets in advance. 🎟️

Conditional Mood

The fancy pants👖 grammatical terms for 'would/could/should' is the conditional mood. The character who will help you to remember how to use the conditional is, wait for it.... voici

Connie Conditional. Because the conditional is all about possibilities - the world is your oyster - she wears a necklace made of pearls which represent all those possibilities, those pearls in the oysters. The conditional is about what would/could/should be possible.

Conditional Perfect

Then the fancy pants 👖  grammatical term for 'would've/could've/should've' is called the conditional perfect

You've done the present perfect - where you used the present tense of avoir/être + past participle - J'ai dormi. 'I have slept.' 😴

You've done the pluperfect where you used the - imperfect tense of avoir/être + past participle. J'avais dormi. 'I had slept.' 😴

Now with the conditional perfect you'll use the - conditional mood of avoir/être + past participle. J'aurais dormi. 'I would've slept.' 😴

Connie Conditional loves to pair up with Mlle Zen 🧘🏾‍♀️  who represents the imperfect tense. So be sure to have a good idea of how to form the imperfect and the pluperfect for more French fluency. I have chosen the order of the courses very carefully. If you've done the previous courses they will help with this one.

If all that grammar talk is scary 😱 - fear not I shall guide you through with downright silliness to help you with the trickier bits. You'll be juggling French verbs in different tenses - you will drop a fair few balls but with practice you'll drop less and less. 🤹

‘My first venture into on-line learning and what a pleasant surprise. Cecile brings the subject to life and her enthusiasm for French shines through in her use of memorable and fun examples, illustrated in a highly visual way. A very engaging teacher who manages to bring the subject to life and make it real - a million miles away from the dusty French I remember from lessons in the past. Merci.’ Andrew Glynn

Fun French Course 12 - The Conditional Mood with Connie Conditional! ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒณ

Would, Could, Should 🔮

The conditional mood with the lovely Connie Conditional - she will tell you all about what would, could, should happen.

The conditional mood is nice and straight forward coupled with the usual irregular gangsters. For the gangsters they'll be some daft associations to help them stick in your brain. 😎

You'll start off nice and easy with the nerdy regular verbs and build up as you get more familiar with the conditional mood.

Would've, Could've, Should've

Then the exciting finale!

You'll do the conditional perfect - the 'would have, could have, should have'.

I can still remember the first time I managed to slip the conditional perfect into a conversation in Italian. It felt bloomin' fantastic! 😊

After this course you'll be equipped to do the same. I hope you get the opportunity to some time soon. Exciting! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
